Nine years since the start of its partnership with the international community, Afghanistan is now at a critical juncture in its efforts to achieve lasting peace, security and stability. Last January, Afghanistan and its international partners gathered in London to reaffirm their commitment for addressing Afghanistan’s prevailing challenges, and achieving lasting peace, stability and prosperity in the country.

To that effect, the Afghan government and its international partners agreed on a reinvigorated and comprehensive strategy for sustainable progress in key areas of security, economic development, governance, regional cooperation, and reconciliation and reintegration..

On July 20, 2010 the International Kabul Conference on Afghanistan will convene in the Afghan capital, to review and build on the commitments made in London. The conference will bring together representatives of more than 70 partner countries, international and regional organization and financial institutions in support of a peaceful, stable and prosperous Afghanistan
